DUNEDIN, July 17.
Confidence in the quality of whisky being produced by the Wilson Malt Extract Company, Ltd, was expressed by the general manager (Mr A. J. Reid) at the annual meeting in Dunedin today.
The company expects to market whisky in about 18 months.
The 20 shareholders present fired a constant stream of questions about whisky plans. One shareholder asked what the whisky’s brand name would be, and also queried press reports of prices for the whisky. The company's chairman
(Mr J. L. T. Braithwaite) replied that marketing experts were considering a name.
“The price comments in the paper were not ours,” he said. “They were cooked up by someone outside the organisation.”
To another questioner, Mr Braithwaite said the 18month period before marketing was “only a target.” “If we feel it is not the time to launch the product, we may alter plans. We’ll watch the situation closely,” he said.
