MORE SERUM HEPATITIS

Two cases of serum hepatitis were reported to the Health Department in Christchurch last week and yesterday the department was notified of two more. The total number of serum hepatitis cases to date is 12. The disease can be caused by the use of an infected hypodermic syringe. It is not known if the latest cases are connected with drugs, as inquiries by department officers are still being made. The Medical Officer of Health (Dr L. F. Jepson) said that five cases of infective hepatitis were also reported last week.
