WATCH ON CURVES

Microwave speed checks at intersections and bends will be conducted throughout Christchurch and Canterbury during the next few days as part of a road safety campaign which will run until July 23.

The campaign does not, however, replace the current educative campaign on seat belts, and officers will continue to give special attention to belt wearing and to roadside belt checks. This nation-wide campaign by the Ministry is because of the high incidence of accidents on bends and curves: in 1970, 22.6 per cent of all injury accidents, and onethird of all fatal accidents, came under this heading. Traffic officers will be watching in particular for motorists who approach intersections and curves too fast, fail to keep left on curves, overtake too close to curves, park too close to bends, or fail to signal turns.
