‘lnvitation’ from Chou

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) TOKYO, July 17. The Chinese Prime Minister (Chou En-lai) has said that a visit to Peking by the new Japanese Prime Minister (Mr Kakuei Tanaka) would be welcome, the Japanese news agency, Kyodo, reports. Its Peking correspondent says that Chou made this clear to the visiting former chairman of the Japan Socialist Party, Mr Kozo Sasaki, last night. Chou’s statement is interpreted in Peking virtually as an invitaion to Mr Tanaka, who took office on July 7 on the retirement of Mr Eisaku Sato.

Earlier this month, Chou told a visiting Japanese delegation that the Japanese decision to make early Government contacts for restoring normal relations between the two countries “merits a welcome.”
