Two persons died after a car struck a power pole near the intersection of Sawyers Arms and Greers Roads about 3 a.m, yesterday. They were

Gillian Anne Mackay, aged 18, of 48 Bletsoe Avenue, Sydenham, and William Kenneth Withell, aged 17, of 63 Bickerton Street, Wainoni. Miss Mackay was dead on arrival at Christchurch Hospital; Mr Withell, the driver, died about 5.30 a.m. The car was extensively damaged.
