St John brigade celebration

The fortieth anniversary of the Christchurch Central Ambulance Division of the St John Ambulance Brigade was celebrated recently. Formed in 1932, it was registered as the St Matthew’s Ambulance Division, but the name was changed during the Second World War. Three foundation members, six past superintendents, and past and present members attended a special function to mark the occasion. The division now has 46 members. During the first six months of this year, the members spent 1298 hours on public duties, 1876 on ambulance transport, and 45 hours assisting at the Christchurch Hospital.
