CLASSROOM REFUSED

An offer of an extra, classroom for Hagley High School was declined by the school’s boar dof governors on Friday. The offer was made by the Department of Education, after the announcement recently of increased staffing schedules for high schools. The board noted that, in line with its policy of restricting the growth of the high school, it would be unwise to have extra classroom space although increased staffing might mean some difficulties in timetabling. Notice was given to the board that another step had been taken to extend the school site, with the purchase of property at the end of Purdie Street.
