$4000 taken from safe
About $4OOO was stolen from a safe at the Woolston Tavern, 604 Ferry Road. early yesterday morning. A key found in another room at the tavern was used to open the safe. The money and several small cheques were taken in five cash drawers. Nothing else in the building was stolen. The burglar entered the tavern by climbing on to the roof and forcing a second - storey window. After finding the key, he apparently went downstairs, forced an office door, and opened the safe. He apparently left through a door. The burglary occurred between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m., while the hotelier was asleep in another part of the building.
