First to hit 1000 runs

Mushtaq Mohammad, Northamptonshire’s Pakistani all-rounder, became the first player this season to score 1000 runs in first-class cricket in England with a century yesterday against Leicestershire. Mushtaq, aged 28, reached the target with his ninetysecond run, went on to complete his century in 3hr 37min with a six and 10 fours, and was eventually out for 122. D. Steele, making 109 not out, assisted him in a thirdwicket stand of 206.
