Expensive desk
A Louis XVI black lacquer writing desk by Martin Carlin brought $270,000 at a sale at Christie’s of French furniture and objects of art. The eighteenth - century desk, 48in high and with a Japanese lacquer panel, was bought privately. In a sale at Sotheby’s a private buyer paid a world auction record of $5786 for a violin bow. The bow was made in the early nineteenth century by Francois Turte, of Paris.
