Smear test defended

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) I SYDNEY, July 3. j The smear test campaign to detect cervical cancer in. women had detected about | 6000 cases within New South Wales in 10 years, a leading pathologist said.

The director of the New South Wales Institute of Clinical Pathology in Sydney (Dr H. Kramer), defended the smear test against recent accusations of ineffectiveness.

“A suggestion that the smear tests are a fizzer is contrary to world medical opinion. Gynaecologists everywhere comment that they are now seeing fewer advanced cases of cancer of the cervix,” Dr Kramer said.
