Malta’s currency
Malta has freed the Maltese pound from its automatic link with sterling, and its value will now float between sterling and the currencies of the island’s principal European trading partners. The Central Bank yesterday quoted the Maltese pound as having moved 3 per cent since Britain floated sterling, which meant that its rate was 5.50 per cent higher than the value of the pound.—Valetta, July 3.
