Fast for Bangladesh

Three young Christchurch men yesterday ate the last meal they will enjoy for some days. They hope to draw attention to the Bangladesh youth appeal by fasting. They will do this until they have confirmation of church support for their cause, and until they have agreements to make significant donations to the appeal from the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch, the Bishop of Christchurch, the Presbyterian Moderator, the Methodist Synod chairman, and the Mayor of Christchurch. The men, who are camping* in a hut on the Avon river- i

bank, say that they expect many more supporters to have joined them by this evening, and that there are others in Christchurch also fasting. The organiser of the appeal, Mr C. McGrath, said that New Zealanders as affluent people of the world, had a moral obligation to do all in their power to alleviate the tragic situation in Bangladesh.

Messrs McGrath, M. Coughlan, and R. Dunlop, expect to fast for about a week, before beginning a money-raising campaign to ; adopt and rebuild a village iin Bangladesh.
