Irish Derby to Steel Pulse

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) THE CURRAGH (Ireland).

The Australian jockey, W. Williamson, gained consolation for his displacement by L. Piggott in the recent Epsom Derby when he rode Steel Pulse to victory in the Irish Sweeps Derby here on Saturday. Williamson, who lost the mount on Roberto to Piggott, the British champion jockey, on the eve of the Epsom classic, rode Steel Pulse to a length victory in Saturday’s one. mile and a half event.

Roberto, ridden by champion Irish jockey, J. Roe, was 15/8 favourite after his Epsom Derby triumph but could never get on terms with the leaders in a fastrun race.

Scottish Rifle, a 16/1 chance, was second with Ballymore (3/1) six lengths away third.
