Singapore Airlines
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent)
SINGAPORE, July 1
Singapore’s new national airline, expected to begin services on October 1, is not thinking of flying to New Zealand at this stage, a spokesman said. The new line, named as Singapore Airlines, has rights to land in New Zealand, negotiated between the two Governments on behalf of Malaysia Singapore Airlines (M.S.A.) and Air New Zealand. Air New Zealand has two flights a week between Auckland and Singapore, but M.S.A. has not taken up its rights to extend its Australian service across the Tasman.
The Singapore Airlines spokesman said initial schedules would terminate flights at Sydney and Melbourne, and while it was hoped to extend services to New Zealand eventually, there were no immediate plans to do so.
