Surplus a record

WELLINGTON, July 2.
A record annual surplus of sll7m was shown in New Zealand’s overseas exchange transactions on current account in the year ended May, the Reserve Bank reported.
The surplus in the 12 months ended April this year was sll4m, and in the 12 months ended May last year there was a deficit of s2sm. The latest surplus was made up of a favourable trade balance of s3l2m and a deficit on invisible items of sl9sm. Export receipts rose sl9sm. more than offsetting the s43m rise in imports. The deficit on invisibles was sllm higher than in the year ended May last year. Official overseas reserves rose s2sBm to a record s7lBm.
