METRIC MILK BOTTLES SOON
Metric milk bottles should appear in most places some time during the next month, the New Zealand Milk Board reports. They were expected to start circulating last month, but some milk stations had stocks of unused pint bottles which would nave prevented a change until July or later. Excess stocks were switched to other stations, and all should now be able to introduce metric bottles this month. But the old pint bottles will still be in circulation for some time: it has been estimated that it will take 20 months for the last of them to go out of use. During this time both pint and 600 millilitre bottles will be used, and will sell at the same price. At the end of the period, milk and cream will be sold by the litre in large quantities, and in retail quantities, in 600 millilitre, 300 millilitre and 150 millilitre bottles. The photograph shows the difference between the “eld” pint bottle (left) and the new 600 ml bottle. If a pint is poured from the 600 ml bottle, there is enough extra milk to fill a normal 40 ml medicine measure just above the three-quarters mark.
