N.Z. scores two wins

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The New Zealand hockey team ended its build-up at home for the Munich Olympic Games with a 2-1 win over the President’s XI at Te Whiti Park, Lower Hutt, yesterday. B. Maister opened the scoring for New Zealand and E. Salmon added the second from a penalty stroke. At half-time, New Zealand looked to be heading for an easy win, but for the final 20 minutes the President’s XI fought back. It gained a string of penalty corners before J. Borren dribbled across the circle from a long corner hit and angled a good shot into the net. The President’s XI then applied more pressure, but the New Zealand defence held out. On Saturday, New Zealand beat Wellington, 6-1. Although beaten by such a wide margin, Wellington deserved considerable credit. However, it tired and yielded five goals in the second half to fitter, more polished opponents. New Zealand’s goals were scored by J. Christensen, J. Borren (two), A. Corbett, B. Maister, and J. Archibald.
