Church union at port

Members of the Lyttelton Methodist and Presbyterian Churches recently decided to unite to form the Lyttelton Union Parish. On Thursday evening, at a special service in St John’s Presbyterian Church, this became a reality. At this service also, the Rev. R. Dudley Ives was ordinated by the Moderator of the Christchurch Presbytery (the Rev. L. Jones). The presiding minister at the service was the chairman of the Methodist district synod (the Rev. W. A. Chambers). The preacher was the superintendent of the Christchurch P.S.S.A. (the Rev. G. F. McKenzie). The interim moderator was the Rev. Chapman. The first lesson was read by the Rev. V. W. Couch, of Rapaki, and Mr L. W. Laing, of Lyttelton, read the second lesson. A social function was held after the service. Among specially invited guests on Thursday evening, were the member of Parliament for Lyttelton (Mr T. M. McGuigan), the Mayor of Lyttelton (Mr J. B. Collett), the Rev. D. I. B. Balfour, of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Lyttelton, and the Rev. J. Coleman of St Joseph’s Church, Lyttelton.
