FORECAST CHART FOR NOON TODAY
SITUATION AT 8 P.M. A ridge of high pressure east of the North Island is moving east; pressures are low in the South Tasman Sea and a disturbed north-west airstream covers the eastern Tasman Sea and New Zealand; fronts in this airstream are expected to cross the North Island during the day. FORECASTS:
CANTERBURY and the KAIKOURA COAST.—Northerly winds fresh to strong in many places; showers and thunderstorms in the main western ranges but only scattered light falls spreading to the coast; mild afternoon temperatures.
MARLBOROUGH SOUNDS.—Fresh to strong north-westerlies to gale force in exposed places; showers this morning and scattered thunder, but long fair periods in the afternoon; moderate temperatures.
CENTRAL MARLBOROUGH and NEL-SON,—North-west winds, gusty at times; showers this morning but fine and mild in the afternoon.
BULLER and WESTLAND.— Northerly winds, gusty at times; unsettled with showers and scattered thunderstorms, but long fine intervals; moderate temperatures. OUTLOOK.—-Showery, in the west, fair in the east.
