World record filibuster

(N.Z: Press Assn.—Copyright) AUSTIN (Texas), June 29. Senator Mike McKool, the sft. 4in Texas politician known as "Little Hercules”, talked incessantly for 42 hours and 33 minutes trying to convince the State Senate to spend more money for mental health services, and then sat down, ending the world’s longest filibuster. With three days of whiskers on his face, Senator McKool took a long drink of tnilk from a soda-pop bottle, and said: "! thought the chances weren’t that good when I started.” But. it took the Senate less than five minutes to dismiss the filibuster: they passed a no-new-taxes state Budget bill that did not include the SUSI7m for mental health services he wanted.
