Extra wool sale
The Auckland wool sale which was to have been held at Wiri last Monday, but which, had to be postponed as a result of the British Government’s decision to allow sterling to float, is now likely to be held in the wool exchange in Christchurch next Wednesday.
The offering comprises about 28,000 bales, including Wool Commission stock wools. Putting the sale off until next week allows the chance of getting a much more favourable forward exchange cover on sterling and also allows some settling down in the international money markets. Commenting on the selection of Christchurch, the executive officer of the Woolbuyers* Association (Mr W.
E. Carter) said that the Christchurch exchange was about the only facility it was It was centrally situated for a significant proportion -if buyers, and Christchurch also offered easier and cheaper access than Auckland to North Island buyers apart from those actually resident in Auckland. Christchurch has been used before to hold sales postponed in other centres.
