Town Hall bar application
Catering rights for the new Town Hall complex have been let to Town Hall Enterprises, Ltd, and the company is applying to the Licensing Control Commission for liquor licences for both the Town Hall restaurant, jvhich seats 150, and a theatre bar of the Sir James Hay Theatre.
The chairman of directors of the company is Mr F. H. JGuardsman and Grenadier licensed restaurants, and Warners Private Hotel. The chairman of the Town Hall. Committee (Mr H, G. Hay) said yesterday that the agreement with Mr Visser’s company would come into force on September 1. On that date the catering company would move into the Town Hall, and the catering service for the restaurant and banquet hall (which will accommodate 500 persons for a sit-down meal) had to be ready by September ■ 30, opening day for the Town Hall. The catering company will have an office in the Town Hall so that catering there may be arranged at the same time as bookings of the restaurant and banquet hall. If the company is successful in its application for a theatre bar licence, it will be only the second such licence in New Zealand. The first, and at present only such licence is held by the Mercury Theatre in Auckland. The theatre bar will be on
