‘Aust. falsely represented’

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter — Copyright) SYDNEY, June 16. Australian tourists were causing unnecessary envy in Asian countries by giving a false impression of life in Australia, the Labour leader of the Victorian Opposition (Mr Clyde Holding), said in Sydney. “In their enthusiasm about all things Australian, they do give quite a false picture of life here,” Mr Holding said. "Many Asians believe that you can virtually pick ’up gold bars in the streets. “The Australians don’t indicate that our social services are not equal to those in many European countries, or that a large number of people live on the poverty line. "They should do this, because for many educated Asians this false picture leads them to the view that they could solve all-their personal problems by coming here. I think that our tourists have to be a little less enthusiastic.”
