Schools’ grant raised

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 16. An increase of 10 per cent in the general purposes grant for secondary schools and secondary departments of district high schools was announced yesterday by the Minister of Education (Mr Pickering). The increase, dating from April 1, 1972, will amount to $383,000 this financial year. “The general purposes grant, commonly called the incidentals grant, covers such items as administration expenses, materials for class use. libraries, heating, lighting and water,” the Minister said.
