Bishopric for Coloured man
(N.Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CAPE TOWN, June 12. Canon George Swartz, aged 43, has been appointed Suffragan Bishop of Cape Town, and is the first Coloured (mixed race) man to hold such a high office in the Anglican Church. Canon Swartz is at present priest-in-charge of the parochial district of Bonteheuwel, in the Cape Province. He studied theology at Mirfield, Yorkshire, and also spent some time at St Augustine’s College, Canterbury.
