Electra visit
An Air New Zealand Electra will arrive at Christchurch airport today under charter to the National Air ways Corporation to help it cope with the first day of the school holiday traffic. It will fly between Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch and return. What makes the difference is that it is likely to be the last visit of an Electra to Christchurch as Air New Zealand has sold its Electras to an American broker. They are due in the United States in June. On June 1 Air New Zealand will introduce its DCBs into Wellington, the Electras then no longer being needed. They were first introduced on the Tasman service by Air New Zealand on December 1, 1959. N.A.C. will move 1700 persons out of Christchurch today. It will run three special aircraft to Wellington.
