DO YOU KNOW THIS FACE?—You probably will see no more than a resemblance because the picture is of a lemonpeel angelfish (Centropyge flavissimus), one of the pygmy angelfish found off Queensland and islands of the south central Pacific. Its name is taken from the bright yellow of its skin, a feature brilliantly displayed in a colour plate in “Aquarium Fishes,” published by Pelham Books. The book serves a triple function as a guide to aquarium management, a notable study of the history of fish-keeping, and a magnificent collection of photographs of tropical fish. In the text, Dr James W. Atz discusses the fascinating story of man’s attempts to keep fish in captivity throughout the ages, and tells about modem methods to conserve valuable species. Separate sections deal with the many facets of setting up and maintaining successful home aquariums. Dr Atz is Curator and Dean Bibliographer of the American Museum of Natural History. The photographer, Douglas Faulkner, is widely known as an underseas photographer. His pictures have been seen in many magazines and In exhibitions. The exquisite forms, colours, and backgrounds in this book are testimony to Mr Faulkner’s skill and techniques. Notes to the plates describe the species and their adaptability to aquarium life.
