Milestone for golf club
The Waimairi Beach Golf Club will celebrate its fortieth anniversary this weekend with a Canadian foursome tournament and a social gathering. It is appropriate that at this point in its history, the club should have its top team in the Woodward Cup grade. Waimairi Beach was promoted to senior ranks this year, and already players such as J. Williams, F. J. Poskitt, W. Pitcaithly and G. R. Mclntosh are making their mark. M. R. Blank, who played for Christchurch in the latest rounds of the Woodward Cup competition on the course, recently has a
particular affection for Wai mairi Beach. He recalled that, as a youngster, he tied the marker tape on the lupin as his father, Mr A. R. Blank, laid out the course. The heavily wooded course has always been a challenge to golfers, even the very best ones. "Hitting the woods well” is a jocular reference at the club to a player’s experience with the trees, not his clubs. Waimairi Beach members will be able to look about them with pride during the anniversary. celebrations. They have a fine new clubhouse, and the course is in first class condition.
