Production of paper
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 28. The newsprint output of Tasman Pulp and Paper Co., Ltd, was running at full capacity, despite a fall in Australian consumption, said the managing-director . (Mr W. W. Olsen) today.
He said dumping by Canadian producers in Australia had created some problems, but Tasman was nowhere near a sitaution in which it would have to reduce production. There were sales prospects outside Australia, and if sales in Australia were to decline further, the company would try to sell elsewhere. He said the Australian situation, created mainly by a sharp reduction in advertising and a consequent decrease in the size of newspapers, was a temporary one. “It has happened before and we are not particularly alarmed,” he said. “But, of course, there are always commercial risks."
