WANGANUI WOOL SALE U.S. buyers active

(N.Z. Press Association) WANGANUI, April 28. United States buyers showed increased activity at the sixth Wanganui wool sale of the season today. The official report issued by the Wanganui Woolbrokers’ Association in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission stated that there was good general competition. The offering of 13,169 bales comprised mainly secondshear wools, with a smaller percentage of full fleece and lambs’ wool, along with the usual piece oddments. The autumn second-shear was mainly in the 2-inch to 3-inch and 2-inch to 4-inch groups, with some wellprepared and good-coloured lines on offer. A number of lots of sec-ond-shear wools could have been improved by better shed preparation as they were showing a quantity of yellow

brisket and belly wool. The small quantity of fleece and lambs’ wool comprised some attractive lines, but in the main the offering was typical end-of-season. Compared with the Invercargill quotations on Wednesday, the market was barely steady for fleece, including cotts, and also for the small quantity of 3-inch to 4-inch second-shear. All other descriptions were in buyers’ favour. Prompt date for the sale is May 16. The Wellington wool sale was held in conjunction with the sale. The offering comprised of 8500 bales of new season’s greasy wool and 5870 bales offered on behelf of the Wool Commission. Prices were virtually unchanged from those at the recent Invercargill sale. Official range of prices:— Fine crossbred.
