INDOOR BOWLS

First 1972 challenge The Canterbury indoor bowls team will not have things its own way today against the smallest association in the South Island, Golden Bay-Motueka. This will be the first challenge of the season for the A S. Paterson Trophy — the symbol of provincial supremacy in the South Island. The challenger has a tried team, with very familiar players to Christchurch in R. and L. Inglis, R. Duncan, M. Edwards, Mrs N. Inglis, V. Arundel, H. Lane, and Mrs M. Edwards.

The Canterbury team contains a few surprises, with three new representatives, D. Marshall and R. Ellen, both of Hornby W.M.C., and the former Waikato player, Mrs V. McLeod.

G. L. Barnes, who had a very successful outdoor bowling season will be third to the team captain, T. Austin.

R. J. Watkins returns to the team after an absence of two years and is paired with A. E. Williamson. They won the national title at Invercargill. L. Bellis, a former New Zealand singles winner, completes the team.
