• University Vacancies THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY LECTURER IN SOCIOLOGY APPLICATIONS are invited for appointment to a new post of Lecturer in the Department of Sociology in the Faculty of Arts. The appointee will be expected to take up duty as soon as practicable. THE UNIVERSITY OF PAPUA AND NEW GUINEA LECTURER IN BIOCHEMISTRY APPLICATIONS are invited for a position of Lecturer in Biochemistry within the Department of Human Biology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Papua and New Guinea. The successful applicant will be involved in the organisation and teaching of Biochemistry to Second Year medical students. It is desirable that the appointee have the interest and experience to further the integration of biochemistry teaching with clinical departments and with other disciplines taught by the Department of Human Biology. The Faculty of Medicine is located near the Port Moresby General Hospital. Facilities exist for research and an applicant with research experience in Immunology or protein chemistry would be favoured. Salary range: $A7200 to 89783. Plus SA36O per annum for a married male appointee. F.S.S.U. Superannuation is available.

ECONOMICS—CHAIR The Council invites applications for a vacant Chair within the Department of Economics from those with appropriate academic qualifications and professional and research experience in any of the major fields of economics, particularly Economic History or Economic Theory. Two of the three established Chairs are held by Professor C. A. Blyth and Professor G. P. Braae. The advertised position is to replace Professor A. R. Bergstrom, who has recently taken up a Chair in the United Kingdom. Professorial salaries are at present established within the range NZ511,093-514,947 per annum. ECONOMICSSENIOR LECTURESHIPS/ LECTURESHIPS Applications will be welcomed from candidates in any of the recognised branches of economics, including in particular Economic History and Monetary Theory. UNIVERSITY POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP—--1973 AWARDS Applications are invited for Poctdoctoral Fellowships to be taken up during the period September 1, 1972, to August 31, 1973.

The Fellowships are open to graduates of universities other than the University of Auckland for the purpose of carrying out advanced research within any Department of the University in a field which is acceptable to the Department. Successful applicants may be expected to participate in limited teaching activities, the terms of each award to be settled after consultation with the Head of Department concerned.

To be eligible for a Fellowship, candidates must have been awarded the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, or have completed the requirements for such an award, or hold some other appropriate academic qualifications. The awards are primarily intended for candidates who have held a Ph.D. for not more than four years at the time of application, but in exceptional circumstances other candidates may be considered. The total value of the Fellowships will normally be based on a monthly allowance of NZ$5OO, plus, where applicable, actual fares for the appointee only up to a maximum equivalent to an economy class return air fare from the place of residence at the time the appointment was made. Fellows should expect to pay tax on the monthly allowance.

Holders of Fellowships are not permitted to undertake additional paid employment within the University. Appointments will be made for a stated number of months, normally 10-12, the actual term to be agreed at the time of appointment. Fellows may apply for an extension of their Fellowships in competition with other applicants.
