Accident in rally
(From A. J. PETRE)
GISBORNE. An accident involving injury—the first during the Heatway international rally —changed results soon after the start of the fourth division last night. The Toyota Corolla driven by I. Pinkerton, of Wellington, crashed over a bank on the Ihungia-Motu road lap section west of Tokomaru Bay. Pinkerton’s co-driver, S. Lachman, of Wellington, is believed to have suffered back injuries. At the time of the accident, the Toyota was one of three in a team entered by Consolidated Motor Distributors, and was leading in the teams category. Pinkerton is the president of the Wellington Car Club. (Rally report back page.)
