Traffic officer attacked, left unconscious

AUCKLAND, April 27.

A Ministry of Transport traffic officer was beaten unconscious and left lying in loose shingle on the side of the north-western Auckland motorway early this morning.

Traffic Officer Keith Holland was admitted to Auckland Hospital with head injuries as a result of the incident. The police said he was on a routine patrol on the motorway at 3.20 a.m. when he saw an early model Zephyr car with no rear recistration plates. When the officer stopped, he spoke to the driver at the rear of the car. He found that the driver had no licence and also that the registration plate on the front had been cut In two. Traffic Officer Holland called the police but soon after was knocked uncon-

cious by the driver, who left him lying on the side of the motorway. When the police arrived he was still unconscious and he was taken to hospital by ambulance. The man who the police are looking for is described as a European, aged between 20 and 24 yean, with medium length ginger hair. He .was

wearing dark corduroy trousers, a tee-shirt and denim jacket. The man had a male passenger in the dark blue car. The front number plate, which had been cut, was showing the registration “CN 2. . Roadblocks set up in the area failed to find the car.
