Milk-delivery ultimatum
(N.Z Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 18. Wellington milk contractors will be dismissed unless the city council alters a decision made at its meeting this week. The council has said that unless the contractors agree by 3 p.m. on Wednesday to make Sunday deliveries, they will be dismissed. But the contractors said tonight that a decision could not be made by that time. "Our meeting to consider the situation will not begin until 3 p.m. so it is quite definite that no decision can be given,” said the secretary of the contractors’ organisation (Mr T. C. Gallagher).
“Whether the council has ‘got its wires crossed’ or whether it is a deliberate attempt on the council’s part to force a showdown I do not know, but it is impossible to meet their demand,” he said.
