Day without pay
Millions of Russians turned out today for their annual day of unpaid work. Some turned up at their factories, while office workers were out sprucing up houses, streets and parks. The special day was first introduced in 1919, and was revived two years ago, when celebrations were in full swing to mark the 100th anniversary of Lenin’s birth.—Moscow, April 17.
