Helicopters and fires
No Royal New Zealand Air Force Iroquois helicopters were used to transport firefighters during the big scrub fire at Mount White Station recently, according to the i Conservator of Forests (Mr J. W. Levy). He made this com- 1 ment about an article on the 1 Forest Service high-country j fire-fighting team in “The ■ Press” on April 11. which • said that men were lifted into the area bv helicopter from the Wigram base. Mr Levy said that the mon- ' soon bucket applying water to the fire was carried bv a . private helicopter. The J article also said that Air . Force helicopters would be i used to carry monsoon buckets to fires, but Mr Levy ' said the Forest Service had , no arrangement with the Air , Force to use the bucket for i fire water application.
