Five world records set

Alekseyev, justified his reputation as the strongest man on earth when he improved on five super-heavy-weight world records in the Soviet weight-lifting championships which ended in Tallinn on Saturday. Alekseyev’s feat brought to 22 the number of world records set during the championships. The Russian world and European champion started by beating the press record
by Ikg (21b) with a lift of 236.5 kg (521 Jib). He followed by improving the previous best marks for the jerk with lifts of 236 kg (520j1b) and then 237.5 kg (52311 b eventually adding 2kg (4jlb) to the old record. He also twice improved the total lift record, finally adding skg (111 b to the previous mark with a total of 645 kg (1421}1b). His three individual lifts in this effort were: press, 235 kg (5181 b snatch, 172.5 kg (380|lb); and jerk, 237.5 kg (523|1b).
