Clean sweep of titles
The New Brighton Power Boat Club driver, R. Denson, won the South Island 1650 c.c. hydroplane championship on Lake Waihola at the week-end and became the first driver to win all the titles in that class in one season. Denson drove Cost-A-Lott in the New Zealand, the North and South Island, and the Rothmans national championships, and the Carl Augustin Trophy race. The Otago 12-cylinder V-bottom boat Aquanaut (w. R. Patterson) won the South Island unlimited and unrestricted championship, beating Voodoo IV (W. L. Stokes) after a close tussle. Duella, the New Brighton 1650 c.c. racing runabout, owned by J. K. Stokes, also made a clean sweep of all the championship titles when it was first past the poet in the Otago race. The boat was driven by B. M. Andrews, of Christchurch, who also won an outboard title driving the Southland boat. Caspar. Andrews, the national speedboat association secretary, was having his first championship drives for several seasons.
