Oils and industrials rise; miners weaken

Oils and industrials found the best support, while the miners showed weaknesses on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Woodside-Burmal finished 8c higher at 215 c after sales at 220 c. The company will hold its annual meeting later this month. Magellan gained 12c to 132 c to record one of the best gains in the sector. Endeavour was steady on 16c, after about a fifth of the capital changed hands at about 141 c a share in a forfeited share sale. Beach eased slightly at 35c. Slater Walker, moved up 8c to 241 c on news of the results for the latest year. Little market change was seen in the Ansett-T.N.T. market battle, with Ansett rising 1c at 109 c while T.N.T. dipped 2c at 230 c. Philip Morris rose 20c to 1250 c. British Tobacco gained 10c at 345 c and BHP was steady on 1260 c. The Bank of New South Wales gained 10c to 820 c. Elders-GM was 2c higher at 244 c in sympathy with the higher wool prices recorded this week. Cons Gold fell 38c to 660 c, Kathleen Investments was down 20c at 230 c and WMC lost 6c at 314 c. N.B.H.C.
