REMINDERS OF THE WEST COAST'S PIONEERING ERA on display at the Kumara Museum. They include (top) the remains of a variety of horse-drawn vehicles, gold sluicing pipes and nozzles (middle), and a number of nineteenth century home appliances such as the paraffin gas lamp held by Mr J. Pamment. Mr Pamment, who is aged 85, drove the Cobb and Company coaches over the Otira Gorge between 1916 and 1923.
