East Berlin authorities closed the Berlin Wall shortly after midnight today, ending a week of free movement through the divided city for West Germans during the Easter holiday, Agence France-Presse reported. Meanwhile, East German customs officials and border guards returned to duty at the border crossing-points between West Berlin and East Germany at midnight sharp. Drivers of the first cars arriving in West Berlin said that their vehicles had been searched. During the last eight days Mveral hundred thousand West Berliners visited East Berlin for the first time in six years and were allowed into East Germany for the first time in 20 years. The relaxation, which will be repeated during the May 17 to May 24 Pentecostal holiday, was a prelude to easing of traffic and visiting rights under the new four Power Berlin agreement and t hc, lnter - Ger man agreement The agreements could not be applied until the Moscow and Warsaw treaties had been ratified by the West German Parliament, the East F °r«ign Minister (Mr Ott Winser) confirmed in a speech tonight in East Berlin.
