Reefs study complete

(N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 7. The new South Pacific republic of Minerva Reefs takes another step to becoming a reality this week. A feasibility study on ways of building up the reef and reclaiming it from the sea has been completed and several plans have been suggested. The study was carried out for the Ocean Research Foundation by a firm of Auckland consultant engineers, Me-. Carthy and Smirk. A spokesman for the engineers said no details of plans could yet !be made public. Dredges due to start work on Minerva early this month have been delayed by cyclones.

The group of Englishmen and Americans claimed Minerva Reefs, which lie between Fiji and New Zealand earlier this year. They plan to reclaim at least 13 acres from the sea.
