Tomato prices down
Warm weather has brought plentiful supplies of tomatoes to the Christchurch markets, and they are retailing for 8c to 15c per lb. Prices are at their lowest this season. With the arrival of a shipment of citrus fruit, oranges and grapefruit are among the bargains this week. Oranges are bringing 22c and grapefruit 28c per lb in the shops. Cabbages are bringing 15c to 23c each, and Spinach 19c to 23c a bunch. Brussels sprouts are bringing 29c to 35c per lb; beans, 25c to 29c per lb; cauliflowers, 23c to 33c each; celery, 25c to 33c a bunch; leeks, 29c a bunch: lettuces, 19c to 29c each; and Silver beet, 19c to 23c a hunch. . Stone fruit is nearly finished, although Golden Queen and Black Boy peaches and nectarines and plums are available. A small shipment of Australian pineapples has .arrived, and these are selling at $10.20 to $l4 a case.
