Aid for Aborigines
(N.Z.PA-Reuter—Copyrights SYDNEY, March 22. The Australian Freedom from Hunger Campaign which has previously directed all its funds overseas announced today that it was giving $54,600 to help combat malnutrition among Aborigines. The money, which represents about 5 per cent of the campaign’s grants for the year, will finance self-help projects in the central Australian cities of Burke (New South Wales) and Alice Springs (Northern Territory). The campaign’s decision to change its policy of sending all funds overseas came after a survey which showed that 18 per cent of Aboriginal children in Central Australia died before reaching 12 years.
