SHARE PRICES ERODED ON QUIETER N.Z. MARKET
Price changes were mixed but the tone of the market remained easy on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday. Falls out-numbered rises about 3 to 2 with the leaders fairly evenly distributed.
Feltex recovered 2c to 380 c, while Ballins, at 134 c, Skellerup, at 316 c, and South British, at 558 c, were 2c firmer. The less active stocks fared better. British Office Supplies and N.Z. Pastoral Holdings gained 3c and 5c respectively. N.Z. Steel recovered its earlier loss of 3c to trade again at 88c and Carter— Holt recovered 2c at 155 c. The Taupo Totara shares and notes were very active. The shares sold at 188 c, up 3c, at the end of the day and the notes rose 7c to 182 c.
The erosion of the prices of a number of leading shares was evident again. Fletcher Holdings,* at 178 c, N.Z. Insurance, at 330 c, and U.E.8.,. at 118 c, were a cent lower. N.Z. Forest Products and Printing and Packaging retreated 2c and 3c respectively.
The finance group edged lower. C.S.I. and General Fin ance lost 2c each and Broadlands eased 1c after appearing to steady earlier in the week.
