The Matra Simca 670 prototype, having its first outing” on Saturday, recorded the fastest time in the first session of preliminary practice for the Le Mans 24hours sports-car race in June. F. Cevert drove the threelitre Matra round the new 8.5-mile course in 3min 44sec at an average speed of 135.66 miles an hour. This was almost three seconds better than the performance of the Belgian, J. Ickx, in a Ferrari 3128, the car at present dominating the sports-car championship.
