Lower grade play-offs

Teams in both the senior reserve and second men’s grade of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s competitions will be required to play off because the top side has not a sufficient margin to the second one. In senior reserve Shirley has 97 points and North Linwood I 93. In second men, United has 93 and Shirley 91. The margin necessary in both these grades is six points and the teams will play off next Saturday. Two of the lower grades have been decided. Hudson. D. Smith, L. Brown, J. Miles, A. Williams, M. Ogier. In the president’s grade South Christchurch has won with 96 Soints. Its nearest rival was hlrley, with 85. The South Christchurch team was:—Men: F. Wylie, Z. Macazek, R. Wilson. Women: P. Junovich, V. Hood. The first mixed B grade has the missed October 23 round to be played next Saturday. Second mixed will also have Its final round next Saturday. Results on Saturday were:— Senior Reserve Elmwood beat Riccarton Domain by 6 matches to 0; North Linwood I beat Linwood Avenue by 6 matches to 6; Shirley beat Edgeware by 4 matches to 2; South Brighton beat United by 4 matches to 2. Second grade men United beat South Brighton by 6 matches to 0; Opawa beat Edgeware by 4 matches to 2; North Linwood beat Woolston by 7 sets to 6; Avonslde beat Waimairi by 5 matches to 1; Shirley beat Burwood by 6 matches to 0. First mixed A Edgeware beat Elmood by 12 matches to 4; Avonslde beat Shirley by 10 matches to 6; Burwood beat Cashmere by 10 matches to 6; Beckenham beat Spreydon by 9 matches to 7. Second grade mixed St Paul’s beat Shirley by 13 matches to 3; Riccarton Domain beat New Brighton by 9 matches to 7; North Linwood I beat Elmwood by 13 matches to 3; Barrington beat Fendalton by 12 matches to 4.
