Jackpot attraction

The prospect of a jackpot pool likely to approach $60,000 will attract considerable interest at the opening tonight of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter Cup meeting at Addington.

The jackpot, which stands at $29,513, will be on the Bryndwr, Spreydon and Fendalton Handicaps, the Easter Cup (First Heat), the Rattray Handicap, and the Easter Cup (Second Heat). The jackpot windows will be open from 4 to 6.33 p.m. Scratchings have reduced the fields for the Easter Cup heats, which form the T.A.B. double, but have made the selection of the winners only a little easier.

Radiant Globe, which will be favoured by the free-for-all conditions, and Arapaho, the top four-year-old this season, form a likely combination.

The top Auckland pacer, Sunshine Boy, and the promising Violetta look certain to test Radiant Globe, while Rauka Lad and Globe Bay may be the ones to end Arapaho’s winning sequence of four.

For the course double on the Bryndwr Handicap and the Second Graduation Stakes the Hororata Cup winner, Dwayne, and the brilliant Young Quinn, will be a favourite combination. The Ballins Industries Handicap, a non-tote event, for women drivers will be an added attraction beginning at 5.30 p.m.
